What to Expect with Physical Therapy:
How can physical therapy help me?
A physical therapist can evaluate your condition and identify the source of your discomfort or dysfunction. Once evaluated, the therapist can develop a treatment program that will usually involve some form of manual therapy and exercise, as well as modalities if they are needed to treat the problem areas. You will also receive instruction in a home exercise program as well as education on proper body mechanics and posture to prevent re-injury.

What do I need to do to get started?
Many insurance policies require that a patient get a prescription from a medical doctor in order to begin physical therapy treatment. It is best to check with your primary insurance to see if your plan requires a prescription prior to treatment. A physical therapist may evaluate an individual without this prescription but in order to begin any treatment, the prescription must be obtained if required to be covered by your health insurance.

Does insurance cover physical therapy?
Medical insurance generally covers physical therapy treatment. However, each insurance plan is different. You can check with your insurance carrier to determine your coverage. Or, if you prefer, you can call us today and our staff will be glad to assist you in determining your benefits.

What will I do on my first visit?
Please plan on coming 15 minutes before the start of your appointment to complete your new patient paperwork which includes information about your injury, current function and pain scale. Bring along your physician's referral, your insurance card (if applicable) and wear comfortable clothes.
You will be evaluated by a licensed physical therapist, occupational therapist, chiropractor or osteopathic physician, which will include time for your therapist or doctor to get to know you so that they may better understand your injury. Each patient's situation is unique and your plan of care will be set up just for you. For future visits, we ask that you schedule one week out and let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to make your scheduled appointment.

What are my options when I have completed my therapy?
Many of our patients request assistance or advise in joining a gym or trying a new form of activity (e.g. pilates or yoga). Others would like to return to their health club without fear of re-injury. Once your therapy program is completed, we offer an after therapy exercise program consultation, where previous patients receive a personalized exercise program or guidance with choosing and safely pursuing a physically active lifestyle.
